trimbach

Muscat Reserve

Alsace, France

Trimbach has long been a producer standing at the top of the totem pole of fame and quality within the Alsace region. Trimbach started in 1626 and the 13th generation of winemakers has recently joined the crew and is keeping family traditions while maneuvering an ever changing climate and economy. Trimbach is famed for bracing wines with texture and a showcase of terroir.

This wine is a true to form aged Muscat being a 2014 vintage. The grapes for this wine are a selection of various villages and vineyards from around Ribeauville which is where the estate resides. It is bone dry with a touch of acidity to carry the wine through. The wine shows notes of honeysuckle, orange and minerality. All of which are characteristics of Muscat and the terroir of Alsace.

Aged white wines can be, unfortunately, overlooked on occasion which is why we are so excited to be able to send out an aged white wine from one of the most famous producers in France. Drink with friends, or drink it on your own. It’s hard to choose the wrong time to enjoy a bottle of wine like this.

Pairing: Braised Stuffed Artichoke A la Barigoule

Fun fact: The label for their world-renowned Clos Sainte Hune Riesling features a drawing of the view from their former 19th-century winery rather than the current winery.

Clos Maurice

Volupte

Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay

Loire, France

The original family of Les Clos Maurice, the Hardouins, has been present in the Varrains since 1783. However, good wine from this estate only started in 2009 and has only gone up in quality since. The estate partnered with Nicolas Reau in 2017 and he immediately turned around the farming practices and winemaking style to biodynamic and minimal intervention.

There is tender care throughout the winemaking process and it is shown in the final wine. The Volupte is a Cremant de Loire made up of 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Chardonnay. There is purity of fruit with a racy acidity to back it up. Clean and delicious is only one way to describe this wine. The bubbles are fine and nearly poignant.

Cremant de Loires have been becoming some of our favorite sparkling wines. Especially those of Chenin Blanc as the grapes diversified abilities are exciting to see. Enjoy this wine by itself, with food, when you’re sad or happy. There’s not really a bad time to pop open and drink up.

Pairing: Smoked Salmon Sandwich with Goat Cheese

Fun fact: Nicolas Reau is a fan of consolidation so some of his wine (this one included) are fermented and then aged in the same large foudre.

Azienda Agricola Accornero

Viari

Ruche

Monferrato, Italy

The Accornero family has been making wine since 1839. Originally started by Bartolomeo Accornero and his wife Giuseppina Lasagna which is arguably the most Italian name ever. The estate is now run by fourth generation Giulio and his sons Ermanno and Massimo.

This wine is made of 100% Ruche, a grape native to the Piedmont area of northern Italy. Ruche isn’t usually a grape that makes up the entirety of a wine. At least not much is exported here and is usually enjoyed as a table wine in Italy. Ruche has been getting a bit more attention from winemakers recently and for good reason. It’s delicious.

This wine is floral with flavors of small red berries and resinous herbs underneath. Quaffable yet elegant. We’re excited to share this one with you.

Pairing: Pasta with Roasted Cauliflower and Blue Cheese

Fun fact: The softer tuffaceous subsoils around the estate are perfect for digging cellars, called an “infernot”, and aging wine in. These infernots are recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site of Humanity.
